Three

For my first post I would like to talk about one of my favorite books.  This book needs no introduction. Ted Dekker fans recognize this book by the “I’s” in its title. This “all night long I’m afraid to fall asleep without reading the ending” and then “wow! What just happened” exclamation gets seared into the reader’s mind like grill marks on a piece of tilapia. Nothing about this book is usual. Most books have to build up before anything intense happens, but not this book. This book starts off like a continuous drop on a rollercoaster, always building up speed as it spirals to an uncertain ending. But, then at the end, it levels, and coasts safely into the station leaving the reader feeling satisfied and extremely grateful for the terrific read Mr. Dekker has provided to us. Thank you Mr. Dekker! Only after unbuckling and stepping out of the car does the reader begin to question how on earth he arrived at the station when the only direction he went was down! The fact is that the reader is not at the same station, but has reached a new level of understanding and clarity from which to view those around him and life itself. Every book is a window. But only a few have the ability like “Three” to leave the reader gazing at the sunlight months and years after closing the bindings. I hope you loved or will love reading this book just as much as I did.
